Mr. Counts was a member of Columbia Sailing Club, the Palmetto Mastersingers and the Sertoma Club. He spent more than 40 years in the optical business in sales and management, owning Embry Hills Optical Lab and Dispensary in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a Fellow in the National Academy of Opticianry. After retirement and moving to Lexington, Jim opened a grill shop to further his devotion of barbeque and cooking.
He loved a dry, bruised martini, woodworking, building model and full size airplanes, traveling, sailing, painting, golfing, cooking and especially his time at the beach and mountains.
Mr. Counts is survived his wife of 42 years, Karen Counts; daughter, Andrea Russell (Chuck); son, James Counts III; sisters, Patti James (Louie) and Mary Stansell; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother, Gene Counts.
