Gwen Dugan was born in Columbia, South Carolina on March 22, 1971. She graduated from Lexington High School in 1989 and received a music scholarship to attend the University of South Carolina for a degree in Vocal Performance. Though Gwen did not graduate from the University of South Carolina, she did continue to pursue a bachelor’s degree and graduated from Southern Wesleyan University in 2007, where she achieved her degree in Business Administration.
Gwen was very active in her community. She was elected as the Pleasant Hill Elementary School Volunteer of the Year in 2013. She served Pleasant Hill Elementary School as an Immersion Parent Coordinator, and served as Chair of the School Improvement Council. Mrs. Morris also served on Lexington School District One’s Parent Advisory Council and the Government Relations Committee, as well as various other appointments and volunteer positions. In recent years, Gwen was a passionate supporter of the Lexington High School Cat Band Booster Club. She served as concessions chairperson, and two terms as Booster Club President 2018-2020. She was elected parent volunteer of the year in 2020.
Mrs. Morris has been an employee of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Division of Finance, since November 21, 2016. Her prior career included employment at Lexington School District One and SAFE Federal Credit Union. Gwen was also a franchise owner of Cruise Planners for many years.
Gwen is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 26 years, L. Zane Morris; daughters, Savannah and Chloe; mother, Glenda Schwartz Dugan; sister, Sherry Dugan Keel; brother, William “Billy” Dugan; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, William Thomas “Tim” Dugan.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 30, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.
