PELION – Funeral services for Frank R. Stover will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Born in Lancaster County, SC, Mr. Stover was a 1951 graduate of, what was then, Clemson College with a BS Degree in Agricultural Education. After graduating from Clemson, he served as a platoon leader and commanding officer for the 3rd Armored Division during the Korean War. Following his military service he began his career as the Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor at Pelion High School. Under his leadership, the chapter was very active and received many awards for achievements.
In 1965, Mr. Stover was hired by the Office of Vocational Education, SC Department of Education where he served as State Supervisor of Agricultural Education, Advisor for the SC Association of Future Farmers of America and the SC Young Farmers of America. He served in this capacity until retiring in 1984. In 1985 Mr. Stover was named Executive Director and Treasurer of the newly created SC FFA Foundation. Mr. Stover served as Mayor of the town of Pelion from 1993 - 1999. He also served on the Joint Municipal Water and Sewer Commission since 1994 and had been Chairman since 2012. Mr. Stover was presented the Order of the Palmetto, the highest honor given to a civilian in South Carolina, by Governor Nikki R. Haley in June of 2012. Mr. Stover was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Betty A. Stover. He is survived by, two daughters; Joyce Davis (Mark) and Ann Marie Boswell (Tom); son, Frank Stover, Jr. (Melissa); grandchildren, Claudia Boswell Starling (Chris), Bridgette Davis, Grace and Warren Stover and great-grandchild, Savannah Starling. The family requests that memorials be made to the Brain Injury Association of SC and SC FFA Association.
