GASTON - Ann Hammond 72, of Gaston, SC was called home by her Lord and Savior on Wednesday October 7, 2015. Ann was born March 12, 1943 to J. Melvin and Eva Lee Cope of Fairfax, SC. Ann, was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She spent much of her life raising and loving her three children and countless others with her in home daycare service and while working at Lexington Medical Center CDC. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Gaston. Her family will miss her warm friendly smile, her loving hugs, her ability to bring us together with her own style of southern cooking and her stories of days gone by, that she always seemed to add to a conversation.
She was predeceased by her parents and brother, JW Cope. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charlie "Martin" Hammond; her children, Terry (Marlin) McPhail, Joby Hammond, Linda (Eric) Norris; her grandchildren, Amanda and Ryan McPhail, Christian and Christopher Hammond, Reese, Cole and Blake Norris, and sister-in-laws, Dowlene Cope, Faye Swindler, and Barbara Hammond. The family would like to thank the staff of Lexington Extended Care and Compassionate Care Hospice for making her final days as comfortable as possible.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel with entombment in Southland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum to follow. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
