LEXINGTON – Funeral services for Dorothy Land Young, 80, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with interment in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Mrs. Young was born December 9, 1932 in Greeley, CO and passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013. She was a daughter of the late Wesley Land and Gladys Schulz. Mrs. Young was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Epsilon Sigma Alpha International, Daughters of the Nile, White Shrine and the Lexington County Zoning Commission; the Republican Party and she was a poll precinct manager at Red Bank. According to Irby Schultz, “Dorothy was a dedicated hard working lady for the Federation of Republican women and the local clubs. She was always ready and willing to help. She always had a smile and made us all feel happy. We lost a great lady who will be remembered for her kindness and hard work.”
Mrs. Young is survived by her son, Dennis Chapman; daughter, Susan Sweatt (Robert); daughter-in-law, Carol Harrell; granddaughter, Christina Mook (George) and great-grandson, Landon, Mook. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Louis Young and daughter, Cindy Cook.
