David Gene Teague, 85, of Lexington, South Carolina passed away peacefully on Friday, September 8, 2023. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Lexington United Methodist Church, 309 E Main Street, Lexington, SC 29072, with visitation following the service.
David was born on November 18, 1937, in Carlisle, Arkansas to the late Otto Warren Teague, Sr. and Lois Young Teague. In 1990, he retired as Director of Instructional Media for Jackson Public Schools, Jackson, Mississippi. After moving to Lexington in 1990, he became an elementary guidance counselor for Lexington School District I, from which he retired in 2000. David was a 1959 graduate of Hendrix College, Conway, Arkansas, where he was a 4-year track letterman. In 2007, he was inducted into the Hendrix Hall of Honor for track, and in 2012 he was inducted into the Arkansas Track and Field Hall of Fame. He was an avid tennis player and was a member of the USTA League Tennis 3.5 Men’s 1998 National Championship team. David was a member of Lexington United Methodist Church where he was actively involved in the church choir.
David is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Jane Salley Teague; sons, Brad (Gina) of Conway, Arkansas, and Dave (Stephanie) of Lexington, South Carolina; brother, Sam (Carole) of Conway, Arkansas; ten grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Warren Houston Teague; brother, Otto Warren Teague, Jr.; and sisters, Elizabeth Workman and Lorraine Wilson.
