Darlene was born April 11, 1949 in Visalia, California. She was the daughter of the late Nathaniel Medford Miller and Eileen Beatrice Miller (Reves). She was a graduate of Redwood High School and the College of the Sequoias in Visalia and received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Social Work from Henderson State University and the University of South Carolina. She enjoyed a long career at Berea College in Berea, Kentucky and at Lexington Extended Care in Lexington, SC as Director of Admissions prior to retirement. Her favorite things were spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, reading, and playing Mahjong with her friends. She will always be remembered for her love of The Beatles, The Eagles, musicals, and I Love Lucy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel and Eileen Miller; her uncles, Melvin Miller and Larry Miller. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Charles Waters Kerr, III; children, Christopher Davis (Marina) of Lexington, Kentucky, Mary McMillan (Spencer) of Columbia, SC and Charlse Tucker (Timothy) of Lexington, SC; siblings, Daniel Miller (Maurene), Frederick Miller (Debbie) and Sandra Marsh (Rick Flores). She was also blessed with five grandchildren, Devin, Noah, Logan, Clayton, and Austin.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to those who took care of her including Dr. Tripp Jones, Dr. Anne Hutchison, Dr. Rajeev Vasudeva and Dr. Scarlett Taylor, along with their staff for always being so kind, supportive and caring over the past 15 years. In addition, the family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice for their care and support.
The family will have a private remembrance honoring Darlene’s wishes.
