Cynthia Satcher

Our dear mother sadly passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at the age of 85. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was always there for her family and friends. She was a well-loved member of the Lexington community with many cherished friends of all ages. Cynthia was the daughter of the late Thelma McElmurray and Robert Arail Crouch and grew up in Johnston, SC. She graduated from Johnston High School and attended the University of South Carolina.

Cynthia and her late ex-husband, Ben, moved to Lexington, SC in 1963 and she soon became active in many local organizations and causes. Cynthia was a member of Lexington United Methodist Church for 60 years and served on numerous church committees throughout the years, most recently as a trustee. She was grounded in her faith and loved her church family. She was an avid life-long tennis player and cherished her time as a member of Topspin with her many, many tennis friends; she loved reading and enjoyed lots of conversations, laughter, and wine over book discussions with her two book club groups. Cynthia cherished her “Happy Hour” neighborhood friends and delighted in hosting them weekly on her outdoor porch. She was a past member of the Lexington Woman’s Club, and past board member for LICS (now Mission Lexington). She was a member of Les Bon Ami social club and she always enjoyed her monthly Luncheon Club friends, whom she had known for over 60 years. But her most important role was as “Mimi” to her eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She rarely missed an activity they participated in and always enjoyed watching them having fun outdoors at her home. They all cherished their time at “Mimi’s” house playing in the yard, fishing in the pond, or roaming through the woods.

Cynthia began a career as a stockbroker after raising her three children and retired from Wells Fargo Advisors after over 30 years in the investment industry. She valued those relationships and many of her clients became long-term friends.

Cynthia is survived by her three children, Ben W. Satcher Jr., Mary Lynn “Sissy” Bynum, and Robert C. Satcher (Kelly); her grandchildren, Satcher Bynum Armstrong (Branford), Henry C. Bynum III (Stephanie), Ann Bynum Noblitt (Matt), B. Wright Bynum (Lyndsey), Sutton Satcher Barrow (Robert), Robert C. Satcher Jr., Benjamin GP Satcher, and Sarah-Kate Satcher; her great- grandchildren, MaryClarke, William and Oliver Armstrong; Abigail, Eliza, and Charlotte Bynum; and Willow and Naomi Noblitt. She is also survived by her sister, Ginny C. Kurtz, loving nephews Douglas Kurtz and Ryan Kurtz, as well as several cousins.

Cynthia touched the lives of many through her deep compassion for others, generosity of spirit, loving heart and strong faith; and she leaves a lasting legacy for her family who will cherish her many gifts passed down throughout her life.

Services will be held on at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 11th, 2023 at Lexington United Methodist Church, 309 E Main St, Lexington, SC 29072. Visitation will be in the church following the service from Noon – 2pm. Interment will be private for the family at Mount of Olives Cemetery in Johnston, SC.
