How can you replace a southern gentleman....

You can't.

I grew up on the other side of the dam...met Cindy and Candy one night at Wit's End....Cindy had the red  mustang convertable...she talked about her dad...Shine....and her mother.

Never got the Tarrytown abode tour...but Shine had a 60 inch big screen in the basement...circa 1985....yeah, I'll vouch for Shine not being shy to spend money.

But...yes, him and his ilk taught us how to dress...how to act....no way we could work a room like him

I know our paths have crossed...just liked other mentors...like Chuck H. Bobby Gee, Tom B....we feel you on thre course.....

Shine was my father in law and I read his eulogy which I'm posting here for those to read that missed the graveside service. 

We are here today to celebrate the life of Charles Young Nyberg. I'd be willing to bet that a lot of you here saw that name and wondered if you were in the right place. Unfortunately you are. Of course we all knew him as Shine. He was an loving man with many sides to him. He definitely loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. He was a great and successful car salesman and probably sold a car to you or someone you knew. With that success he made a little money and he tended to spend it on friends, fun and toys. When Shine had money, everybody had money. Shine liked spending it so much that an old friend of his, Carl Neal, used to say that he'd feel better putting a bag full of money in the middle of Hwy 378 than leaving it with Shine. 

Sometimes the simplest things would amuse him. You remember the singing fish plaque, he loved it, the cymbal clapping monkey, loved it, Tickle Me Elmo, he really loved that one. He loved neon signs and all sorts of trinkets and what grown man would proudly say his favorite movie was Roger Rabbit. Only Shine. Like a lot of us, he had problems remembering names and his standard response would be to smile and say “Hey Gal” or “hey buddy”. That didn't always mean he had forgotten your name, it just became his standard greeting. 

Shine was originally from Arkansas and had a little different dialect than most; words like Toyota became Tiyota and wash became warsh, phone booth, phone boof and motorcycle, motorsickle. I used to love hearing him say that.

If something was happening around town he made a point to know about it. If he saw smoke, he was in the car to go see what was happening. A crash somewhere, Shine was on it. He was my go to man for town happenings. I often thought he should have written a weekly article because nothing escaped him. If I heard some news I'd call him and of course he already knew about it.

Shine had a love for animals that few possess. When one of his favorites died, Webster, he was inconsolable for days. I remember when he asked me to go with him to the lake to bury Webster, we were both in tears and I didn't even like that dog. 

All throughout his days he loved spending time on Lake Murray. His happiest times were socializing at the lake, and he loved to socialize. Candy and Cindy would tell stories about going out to eat when growing up. They would laugh and say that dad was good for about 2 minutes at the table then he was up and about talking to everyone else in the place. He always knew someone wherever he went.

His lovable nature and smile. His willingness to give the shirt off his back to a friend.  All these things and more made Shine who he was and the reason we'll all miss him.

Helen and Shine's family, Shine was a honorable and respectable person. A great person that will truly be missed.

Helen, so sorry to read of Shine's death. Don't know if you remember me or not, but we were friends many years ago and I was friends with Shine for many years. I had heard of his illness and have been thinking of y'all throughout the year. It's so strange, I had a dream about him just last night.May God bless you and comfort you during this time of grief.

I have nothing but fond memories of our 36 year friendship. You taught me about life and business. Your human qualities of kindness and compassion toward people and pets will never be forgotten. Your personality and zest for life will live on. The last year of your 73 years was not good on you or your family but your previous 72 was well spent. You will never be forgotten. Lands End at Lake Murray will never be the same. You were a wonderful neighbor and true friend...You will be missed!!!

Shine was beloved.  Everyone that knew him loved him!  He will be missed greatly by many, many people.  He was generous.  Shine not only gave of himself, but all you had to do was mention something, and it was yours.  Shine was a most generous person.  And...he was caring.  He loved his Helen, his daughters Cindy and Candy, the grand kids, Hayley, Garrison, Campbell and Maddie, and he loved and cared for his many, many friends.  When you spent any time with him at all, you knew that he was a very special person indeed.  Ty and I will especially miss all the fun times we had with Shine and Helen in the Smoky mountains.  Thanks for the wonderful memories dear Shine!  We loved you and you will always live in our hearts.  And....may Heaven have a golf cart and a 6-pack waiting for you!

Shine, you will be missed dearly.  You will always be one of the originals at the projects and the lakels.  We always enjoyed the times with you and Helen and your best friends sitting around the lake or the dog house.  Rest in peace buddy, you will not be forgotten.
