LEXINGTON – A graveside service for Charles Young “Shine” Nyberg will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Woodridge Memorial Park, Corley Mill Road at Hwy 378 and I-20 in Lexington. Shine passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011. Born in Helena, Arkansas, November 26, 1937, he attended Columbia High School and served in the National Guard. As a teen, he worked for Forest Lake Pharmacy where he was given his nickname “Shine” by Yancey “Uncle Yank” Roof.
Shine spent most of his years in the automobile business. He worked for Powell’s Garage, Pulliam Ford, Ben Satcher Ford and later as an independent car dealer with Nyberg Auto Sales. He spent his last years as an automobile wholesaler for local dealerships.
He was predeceased by his father, Leo E. Nyberg; his mother, Demma Retta Lynch; his brothers, Leo E. Nyberg, Jr. and John William “Bill” Lynch, Jr.
He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia N. Nelson of Lexington, Candace N. Sansbury (Brent) of Lexington; grandchildren, Hayley M. Nelson, Garrison C. Sansbury, Campbell T. Nelson, Madison C. Sansbury and also by his special companion of twenty years, Helen Gamble and best friends, Fred “Santa” and Beth McCurdy and Doris White.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. A Wake is to follow the graveside service at Baja Broiler, 1345 Old Chapin Road, Lexington, SC 29072.
Donations may be made in his name to Pets, Inc., 300 Orchard Drive, West Columbia, SC 29170. The family would like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice of SC for making him feel special these last few weeks.
