

Carrie Stuart Shaffer, affectionately known as “Carebear,” passed away in her sleep on February 23th 2024 at home in Charleston SC at the young age of 39. She was born to Joseph and Kathleen Shaffer on December 6th 1984 in Columbia SC.
Carrie was a graduate of Lexington High School. As a child, she had a theatrical presence. This included plays, tap dancing, and beauty pageants. She was also very active in the girl scouts. Carrie was an avid reader and big movie buff. She was quick witted and chose to see the good in everyone, putting their needs above her own. Over the years, she looked out for her friends taking in anyone. Her house was a haven for second chances. Carrie loved animals especially Ralphie, her rescue dog, who was always by her side. She truly embodied the essence of empathy and compassion, embracing everyone with an open heart and understanding. In this beautiful way, she navigated through life finding meaning through welcoming and loving all. She will be sorely missed by those who knew her.
She is survived by her parents, Joseph and Kathleen Shaffer; brother, Christopher Shaffer (CJ); sister-in-law, Rebecca W. Shaffer; nephew, Kayden J. Shaffer of Austin, TX; uncle Joseph C. Helfrich and wife, Karen Helfrich of Salt Lake City UT; aunt, Margret Mercorella and husband, Phil Mercorella of Chevy Chase MD; uncle, Robert J. Shaffer and wife, Huiqin of Warren PA; uncle, William Shaffer of Milwaukee WI, and wife, Mary Beth Shaffer; and numerous cousins.

A funeral mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2350 Augusta Hwy, Lexington, SC 29072 at 11:00 AM on Saturday April 27 2024. Immediately following the Mass, she will be interred in the Corpus Christi columbarium. There will be a Celebration of Life luncheon at the home of Kathy and Joseph Shaffer where we can tell stories and reminisce.
