Betty Sox Rikard, 89, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 12, 2023 with family at her side. She was born at home on March 31, 1934 in Lexington, SC and was the youngest of eleven to the late Lewis C. Sox and Leola R. Sox.
After graduating from Lexington High School she married her high school sweetheart, Alvin, and they traveled during his military career. When returning home, she worked as a secretary and then a mail carrier prior to co-owning Rikard’s Automotive Repair.
She was baptized and married at Zion Lutheran Church where she played the organ. Later she became an active member at St. David Lutheran Church as the church organist, youth leader, and member of the Women of the ELCA. Along with her faith, she enjoyed her large family, friends, traveling and tending to her flowers.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynette Brantley; grandchildren: Brittany (Stephen) Perry, Morgan (Louie) Whitaker, Preston (Shannon) Rikard, Kristin (Will) Bebee, Parker (Natalie) Rikard; 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; spouse, Alvin; son, Robert Rikard and daughter-in-law, Dale Rikard; son-in-law, John Brantley; and siblings: Birdie Buff, Leon Sox, Killian Sox, John Thomas Sox, Harold Sox, Cecil Corley, Curtis Sox, Merlene Bouknight, Doris Smith and Kenneth Sox.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, October 16, 2023, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service at St. David Lutheran Church, 132 St. David’s Church Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. Interment will be held in the church cemetery.
