Betty Wolfe Mills, 84, of Lexington, SC passed from this life into Heaven on Sunday, March 12, 2023. She was born in Washington, GA, April 18, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Noke and Mattie Sue Wolfe. She was the youngest of eleven children and a graduate of Langley-Bath-Clearwater High School, class of 1956.
Betty Mills was an avid Gamecock fan, having lived with her late husband in the campus married housing after his football career ended. She was a voracious reader and lifelong learner who enjoyed following current events in written media, as well as being quite proficient in keeping up with evolving technology to stay on top of everything about politics, news, and sports.
She was a fiercely proud, loving, involved, and protective wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was one of the world’s greatest southern cooks and she loved to shop in person and online. Her primary interest in life was always her family, but she was an accomplished executive secretary at several state agencies during her working years.
Betty Mills was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Leonard W. “Jim” Mills, Jr., and has missed him every day since 1998. Surviving are their children and children-in-law, Mike Mills (Caroline), David Mills (Cheryl), Mark Mills (Lisa), and Betsy Dacus (Scott) who all live in South Carolina. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Woodridge Memorial Park in Lexington at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023, directed by Caughman-Harman Funeral Home. The family will remain afterward to speak with friends.
