Thomas Ray Castle

Lewiston - Thomas R. Castle, age 71, of Lewiston, passed away Thursday evening, December 6th at his home with his family at his side. He was born in Texarkana, TX on March 2, 1947, a son of Thomas J. and Ruth (Lacey) Castle. Tom grew up and was educated in Arkansas schools and joined the Navy after high school to serve his country. He went on to serve in the Navy for 24 years. While first stationed in Brunswick, Maine in 1967, Tom met his future wife, the former Jane Langelier and on August 10, 1968, they were married at Holy Family Church in Lewiston. They were stationed next in Jacksonville, FL from 1969 to 1973, during which time their two children, Melissa and Brian, were born. After Florida, they were stationed in Iceland, Puerto Rico, Washington D.C., Italy and finally Norfolk, VA where Tom retired from active service in 1989. They returned to Florida for 10 years where Tom worked as a manager at a home improvement center before settling back in Lewiston, Maine in 2000. While living in Lewiston, Tom went to work for Liberty Mutual as a claims analyst until retiring in 2014. Tom had several hobbies but his favorites were woodworking and gardening. He had a wonderful sense of humor, always enjoyed a good joke and never met a stranger.

Tom was a proud Military Veteran, a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed. He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Jane Castle, of Lewiston; his daughter, Melissa Castle and her companion, Kenneth Tapley, of Lewiston; his son, Brian Castle and wife, Kimberly, of Hickory, NC; two grandchildren, Taylor and Dylan Castle; two brothers, Jeffrey and James Castle, both of Arkansas and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thurs. December 13, 2018 at 11 AM at Holy Cross Church followed by committal prayers and military funeral honors at St. Peter's Cemetery.
