Sheila, the daughter of Ronald C. Gove and Joyce (Smith) Gove, was born in Lewiston, Maine, on March 28, 1940. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1958 and moved to Boston where she enlisted in the Navy. While serving her country, she met and married Edwin Allen Donohue (Ret. Lieutenant Commander), now deceased.
She is survived by her children, Shawn, Chris, and Scott (wife Laura Young), six grandchildren, Kate, Heather (husband Richard Overlock), Casey (wife Nichole), Robert Elan, Sydney and Kelsey, one great-grandchild Silas Howe, two nephews, Jeff Blair (wife Sharon) and Greg Blair, and her favorite sister, Virginia Bishop, fondly known as Petie.
While in the Navy, the family traveled throughout the east and west coast of the United States, including Hawaii. She and Al lived in Maine and Florida upon retirement.
Sheila had a life-long love for antiques and became a fine giftware buyer and manager for Senters Department store in Brunswick and later the Harrington House in Freeport. She and her sister established Twenty-Nine Sylvan, a small antiques and collectibles business. She thoroughly enjoyed going to auctions and passed the trait onto her children. Sheila also had a gift for interior decorating and floral gardening. She loved spending time with family and looked forward to winters in Florida with her friends.
All who knew Sheila knew her for her quick wit and sense of humor. She was proud to be a seventh generation Mainer of Jacob Gove who was deeded land in Northern Lubec for his service in the American Revolutionary War.
The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her final days, particularly the caring staff at Clover Manor and Androscoggin Hospice.
A Graveside Service along with a Military Honors Service will be held later in the Spring at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Lewiston. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024 from 2-4 PM for family, friends and acquaintances at the Pinette Dillingham & Lynch Funeral 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway in Lewiston, 784-4023.
