Rick was born on May 28,1952 in Lewiston, Maine. The son of Richard Donald Sylvain Sr and Patricia (Caron) Sylvain. Proud of his French Canadian heritage, he was strongly influenced not only by his parents, but by his dear grandparents. Memere and Pepere Caron nurtured in him a strong sense of pride, a solid value system, hard work ethic, and a sense of altruism and benevolence. These traits would remain an important part of Rick’s character, throughout his entire life.
Rick graduated from Husson College with a degree in Business Administration in 1974 and later completed his MBA. While at Husson College, he played for the men’s soccer team, which in 1973, became the first team in program history to advance to the NAIA Regional Championship Finals. In 2022, he enjoyed a wonderful reunion at Husson along with many of his teammates as they were inducted into the Men’s Soccer Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Kappa Delta Phi Fraternity, and developed lifelong friendships and bonds with his brothers, many of whom remained supportive and loyal through his final days.
In 1975, Rick began his professional career with Maine Electronics until 1985, when he made a life changing decision to relocate his family to New Hampshire. There he worked for Algorex Inc and then Teradyne Inc. It was his position at Teradyne that created endless opportunities for growth, allowing him to travel extensively through Europe, Asia and many parts of the United States. The highlight of his career occurred in 2000 when Teradyne offered Rick the position of General Manager in a semiconductor facility in San Diego, CA. He relocated his entire family and a “dream team” of professionals from the East Coast, where he appreciated the autonomy of managing a large company, one of his greatest professional aspirations.
He also served on the Board of Directors for the Adult Learning Center in Nashua, NH and most recently, as Vice President of the Board for his community where he resided.
Rick prided himself in treating people with dignity and respect. He was a man of honesty, humility and integrity, which fostered a mutual respect amongst his peers, family and friends. He also possessed a remarkable sense of humor, which remained intact through the very end of his life.
But of all of the things most important to Rick, was his deep love of family. He was fiercely devoted to his wife and children and because of his sense of duty, dedicated his entire life to always meeting their needs first. He led by example, creating strong family bonds between his children and their families, inspiring them to be good and decent people. He was affectionately known as Pep by his grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to spend many happy times with them, skiing in Northern New Hampshire in the winters, and in the summers and fall quahogging, boating and relaxing at the Cape. He walked daily in the woods surrounding his home, and enjoyed playing catch with the family dogs at Peirce Island in Portsmouth, NH. Holidays and Birthdays were always special events at Pep's house. Rick left a wonderful and meaningful legacy of love, resilience, and loyalty.
Rick was predeceased by his son Brent D. Sylvain. He is survived by his loving wife Jennifer, his daughter Diana Peselman and her husband Alex and their children Giselle, Mia and Alexander of Newton, MA as well as daughter Leah Campbell and husband Gardner IV and their children Gardner V, and Olivia of Portsmouth, NH and his son David Sylvain and wife Elizabeth of Portland,OR as well as his two sisters, Sandra Russo and husband Ron of Port St Lucie, FL and Tina Ortiz and husband Carlos of Parkland, FL and many loved nieces and nephews.
