Rene was born December 13, 1950 to Laurier and Fernande St. Pierre Ouellette in Lewiston. He attended St. Dominic Regional High School, graduating in 1968 and received his bachelor’s degree from The University of Maine, Portland-Gorham in 1977. In 1986, he married Marie Carbonneau and together they raised two sons.
Rene worked as a caseworker for the City of Lewiston in the General Assistance Department creating his passion for social work. He became licensed in the field and then worked for DHHS for 37 years, retiring as casework supervisor. After his retirement, he went to work at SeniorsPlus facilitating the Veterans Independence Program. He also served on the supervisory committee of St. Mary’s Credit Union. He was dedicated to his work and was well respected by his colleagues.
Rene enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren, golfing, playing cards, grilling and smoking meat, gardening and fishing. Rene was an avid Boston sports fan and never missed his son's sports games. He was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father and Pepere who will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Rene leaves his wife of 36 years, Marie, two sons, Peter and wife Chelsea and David and wife Renee, his three grandchildren, Oliver, Vivian and Remi as well as his two brothers Paul and wife Georgette and Leo and wife Janet.
He was predeceased by his parents and his nephew, Kevin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SeniorsPlus or VAST (Veterans Adaptive Sports and Training).
A visitation will be held from 10-2 pm at The Fortin Group Lewiston on Sunday, June 26th.
A funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Church at 11 am on Monday, June 27th.
