Lester Kenneth Bonzey

Lester Kenneth Bonzey, 76 years old, passed peacefully surrounded by family at Maine Veterans Home, Augusta on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. Lester was born to John and Muriel Bonzey on March 16, 1948 in Lowell, MA.

Lester and family moved to Maine at an early age, where he graduated from Brewer High School 1966, before enlisting in the Navy. Following his time in the military, he completed his bachelors degree at Husson College. He worked for Bell Industries until he retired, returning to work at New England Communications where he worked until 2018.

Lester had a passion for everything outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He had a special place in his heart for his camps in Millinocket. He was an avid gatherer of mushrooms and fiddleheads. He enjoyed watching and photographing wildlife, birds, and nature. Lester was an artist, enjoying painting, wood carving and getting creative with tying flies for fly fishing. In his younger years, he enjoyed his motorcycle and spending time with his many friends. Lester poured his heart and soul into his friends and family. His unconditional love will be missed and leaves a hole in many people’s hearts.

Lester is survived by his daughter, Alexis Bonzey; grandsons, Dylan Shortill, Peyton Stewart, and Kaiser Stewart of Winslow; Derek and Ruth Cote and granddaughter, Rosalyn Cote of Sabattus; the love of his life, Vicky Black of Auburn; his siblings, Delia Woodman and spouse Woody Woodman; Muriel Brownell and spouse Ronald Brownell; and Jim Bonzey and spouse Sue Bonzey, along with many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Lester is predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Judson Langan and John Bonzey.

A special Thank You to all of his caregivers at Maine Veterans Home of Augusta and Andwell Hospice nurses who have been a second family to Lester and his family.

A Visitation at the Fortin & Pinette Group in Lewiston for Lester will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with Military Honors at 3:00 PM.
