1926 – 2023
AUBURN – Gerard “Gerry” D. Bergeron, 96, of Auburn passed away on January 30, 2023 at the Odd Fellows’ and Rebekahs’ Home. Gerard was born the son of Alexandre and Demerise (LaPointe) Bergeron on April 1, 1926 in Lewiston, Maine.
Gerry married Elna Heikkinen and together they spent 71 beautiful years raising their family. Gerard was employed for 50 years at Bates Fabrics in Lewiston where he met his bride and was a skilled weaver, fixer, and supervisor. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War 2 when he was stationed in occupied Japan. Gerry was always proud to be seen wearing his Air Force cap. He enjoyed model trains, collecting stamps and was especially proud of his United Nations and airmail collections. He enjoyed cutting his own stained glass to create Tifany-styled lamps and other objects. He loved spending time outdoors with family and friends.
He is survived by his son Dave Bergeron and his wife Judi Bergeron, step-grandchildren Katherine, Tyler and Trevor Kaity of Massachusetts and North Carolina, nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Alexandre and Demerise (LaPointe) Bergeron, sisters Pauline Bergeron, Theresa Bergeron Dulac, Rita Bergeron Paquette and a brother Maurice Bergeron.
Gerry and his wife Elna Heikkinen were deeply grateful for the loving care they received from professional and volunteer staff at the Odd Fellows’ and Rebekahs’ Home of Maine in Auburn.
The family invites you to a time of visitation on Friday February 10th from 11:30 to 12:00pm, immediately followed by a Liturgy of the Word Service at The Fortin Group, 70 Horton St, Lewiston. A committal service will follow at St. Peters Cemetery, Deer Rd, Lewiston.
