Lewiston- Gary Charles Lashua, 61, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 2nd following a brief illness. Red Sox Nation and the Patriots have lost a faithful fan. He was born in Lewiston, Maine on January 8, 1957 to Beverly and Martin Lashua. Raised in Danville, Gary attended Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1975.
The greatest joys of Gary’s life were his three daughters, Heather Poulin and her husband David, of JBER, Alaska; Sheena Stachelek and her husband Joseph, of Okemos, Michigan and Elizabeth Lashua and her boyfriend John Dallaire, of Auburn, Maine. He was a devoted grandfather (Papa) to his grandchildren Ashley Gagnon, Dillon Dochnahl and Alexis Morin. He cherished his “Papa days”, watching them play sports and picking blueberries with them. Their happiness was his happiness.
In addition to being a New England sports follower and family man, Gary enjoyed playing softball, making puzzles, creating and continuing traditions, and going out of his way to make others smile.
Gary was proud that he continued to live in and maintain his childhood home in Danville. He enjoyed riding his tractor, being a good neighbor, working in his gardens, the birds that visited his well-stocked bird feeders, his inflatable outdoor Christmas decorations, and time spent with his family and loving companion, Kami LaPointe, whom he was blessed to spend the last years of his life with.
Gary worked hard all of his life. He spent most of his working career in the food industry, including management positions at McDonald’s, Friendly’s, and Deering, until most recently being employed by Cumberland Farms.
Gary was one of eight children and leaves behind brothers Jim, Rick and Mike all of Auburn and sisters Glendine Allen of Powhatan, Virginia, Diane Phipps and Denise Brooks of Auburn, Maine, and Debbi Briggs of Portland, Maine. They are comforted in knowing that their mother, who passed away one week earlier, was there to wrap Gary in her loving arms when he left this life behind.
In addition to Kami, his children, grandchildren, sisters and brothers, Gary is also survived by his loving uncles, many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
