

RICHMOND, VA---Edward E. Dennison, Jr., 92, of Richmond Virginia passed away peacefully on Monday August 29, 2016 at Sitter & Barfoot Veteran Care Center in Richmond, VA. He was born on November 17, 1923 in Portland, ME. His grandmother, Phoebe Dennison and aunt and uncle Leo and Hazel Sinnett raised him in the Portland area. He graduated from Portland High School in 1941.
Edward enlisted in the United States Navy on November 9, 1942 and proudly served his country. He was awarded the Purple Heart during his service. After the military, he became a member of the Peaks Island Police Dept. He joined the Portland Fire Dept. and served the community until his retirement in 1972.
Edward was an Alcoholism Counselor for Community Alcoholism Services in Portland until 1975. He then became Executive Director of the Fellowship House Detoxification Center in Lewiston until 1979. In August of 1979 he was named the head coordinator of the Chemical Dependency Program at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston. And, in 1981 he was the head program coordinator of the Alcoholism Rehabilitation Center also at St. Mary’s until 1983. He then became a member of the team at Lee Oldsmobile Auto Dealership for a few years.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Gloria (Lambert) Dennison now of Lewiston, his daughter Dorothea Cavnor and her husband Tim of Virginia, his grandchildren, David Moulton, Jr. and his wife Kristi and Kristina Lemon and her husband Paul all of Virginia as well as six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, Edward E. Dennison, Sr. and a son, Gregory Dennison.

Visiting hours will be held at Fortin\Lewiston on Monday September 12, 2016 from 5-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Lewiston on Tuesday September 13, 2016 at 11am with the Rev. Paul Gousse officiating. Committal prayers and Navy military honors will follow at Maine Veterans Cemetery 163 Mt. Vernon Rd. Augusta, ME.
