Lewiston - Diane (Dede) Taylor-Moore, 74, lost her battle with cancer on May 07, 2024 after just two days in hospice care. She was born on August 11, 1949 in Rumford, ME, the daughter of Wesley & Elsie Taylor Moore of Frye.
She was previously married to Gordon Holbrook and later married Dwight Hines with whom she had 14 years of marriage. She began her education in the one room school in Frye then attended Swift River School in Roxbury Village. Dede graduated from Stephens High School, Rumford, in 1967. She went on to earn a BA Degree in Psychology and a Master of Special Education from University of Maine, Orono. Dede then earned her Doctorate in Education from Nova University in Florida. She always considered her time at the one room school, with her favorite teacher Mrs. Sarah Bradeen who encouraged her to read & write, as her best educational experience.
Dede spent her career as a Special Education teacher and program director at various private schools and agencies around the state. Her proudest achievement was developing Aroostook Academy in Presque Isle, a school for severe behavior disordered/emotionally disturbed children. She ended her career as Special Education Director in SAD #43.
After retiring, Dede capped her lifelong love of reading by writing two Maine Mystery novels and three children's books. She especially enjoyed hanging out with her family, high school and college friends, and special education colleagues, getting together as often as possible.
She was predeceased by her parents, sister Kathy, and brother-in-law Roy Picard.
Dede is survived by her husband Dwight Hines, sisters Charlene (Charlee) Picard, Silvia (Sam) Moore-Young and husband Craig, nephews Bill Picard, Andrew Young, nieces Aimee Picard Gibbs and husband James, Erin Young Mower and husband Matthew, plus 5 grand nephews and many, many cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff of d'Youville Pavilion, especially Taylor Porter, for their compassionate care and support.
At Dede's request there will be no funeral. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
