1943 - 2023
Lewiston - Diane L. Guay, age 80 and lifelong resident of Lewiston, died in the morning of Wednesday, June14 at D'Youville Pavilion with family at her side. She was born in Lewiston on January 9, 1943, a daughter of Adalbert and Annette (LaVigne) Lauziere. Diane was educated at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Lewiston High School.
Shortly after high school, she married Raymond R. Guay of Lewiston at Holy Cross Church on December 27, 1971 and they began their life together at Ft. Hood, TX where Ray was stationed in the service. Just a few years later, they moved back to Maine and settled in Turner before eventually moving back to Lewiston, where they have resided for more than 45 years.
Diane was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church and well-known in the parish community, having worked more than 10 years until her retirement as the director of after-school childcare at Holy Cross School.
She thoroughly adored children. To her, work with children was a calling, and she spent most of her life caring, teaching and guiding young children through their formative years, watching them develop their own, unique personalities and grow into teenagers and young adults. Many in the community were impacted by her caring, loving personality, a trait of her mother Annette, who also touched a substantial number of children as a teacher at Holy Cross School.
She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and cooking for her family and friends, especially during the holiday season of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. She cherished time with family, especially her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed trips to the ocean and coast of Maine with those she loved.
Diane was a loving, deeply caring wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed.
She leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Raymond R. Guay of Lewiston; her daughter Dawn A. Theriault and husband Adam of Minot; her son David A. Guay and wife Erin of Lewiston;
five grandchildren: Emma L. Theriault, Lauren D. Theriault, Anna Theriault, Samuel D. Guay and Annaliese M. Guay; her sister Darlene Letourneau of Turner and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; a son, Raymond Guay, Jr; and her brother Paul Lauziere.
The Funeral Mass will occur at Holy Cross Church on Friday, June 23 at 11:00 AM. At her prior request, there are no visiting hours. Committal Prayers will take place at a later date at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Diane's memory may be made to the Saint Dominic Academy Scholarship Fund, 121 Gracelawn Rd. Auburn, ME 04210; to support the Catholic education of area youth.
