Lewiston – Denis (Dan) R. Mercier, 90, passed away on December 31. Dan was born on April 20, 1934, the son of Roland and Ida (Bernier) Mercier. At seventeen years old, he met Magella Hamann and vowed that very same day that he was going to marry her. Two years later, they were married. They enjoyed 71 beautiful years together and had seven children. Dan was so proud of their family.
Dan was a man of great faith who was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish for 60 years.
He was a loving husband, father, and avid outdoors man who loved playing golf and hunting, especially with his sons. He also loved family camping trips, horseshoes, and many card games over the years.
Dan was employed at Knapp Shoe for 44 years. He was a hard worker and great handy man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved to build things and would famously say he "was a jack of all trades and a master of none."
We will miss his beautiful smile, wonderful sense of humor, great stories, and so much more.
He is survived by his wife, Magella Mercier, and his children, Diane and husband Daniel Lebrun, Louise Landry, Claire and husband Edmund Burke, Michael and wife Monique Mercier, Don Mercier, and Susan and husband Marc Letourneau. He leaves 18 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, his special sister-in-law Anita and her husband Daniel Gosselin, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Sandy (married to Robert Belanger), his parents, his sister Doris Halle, and many other family members.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 9th, 2025 at 11AM. A Committal Service will take place at Pine Street Cemetery in Auburn in the spring at a later date.
