Daniel was born in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan. He attended Western Michigan University, where he tended goal for the Broncos and graduated in 1977. He went on to coach hockey at the high school level, and led Cranbrook Kingswood to a state championship in 1991. He was also the inaugural coach of the girls’ hockey program at the Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Daniel was a teacher of physics and environmental science, and loved working with high schoolers. Daniel was an avid athlete: he ran marathons and enjoyed cycling and kayaking. He was also a devoted lifelong fan of the Detroit Red Wings and Tigers.
Daniel is predeceased by his parents, Lillian and Robert May, and his son, Ethan May.
He is survived by his two daughters, Emily May and Elissa May, and his brother, David May. He is also survived by Adrienne Kreger, his former wife and the mother of his children.
