BOSTON, MA---Constance (Moreau) Gauthier, 79, of Hudson, FL and Greene, ME died Thursday October 26, 2017, following a long illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. She passed peacefully with her three daughters by her side. Each of her five grandchildren flew in Tuesday to share hugs and say “I love you” with their Memere Connie.
She was born on July 6, 1938, a daughter of the late Irene B. Allen and Roland E. Moreau. Connie graduated from Lewiston High School and married the love of her life, the late Gerard “Pete” Gauthier on August 2, 1958. Together they raised three loving daughters.
Aside from raising her family, Connie worked most of her life outside of the home. Connie was active in local politics and served as a ward clerk during local, state and federal elections.
In her younger years Connie worked in local manufacturing facilities and later went on to work at First National Grocers, in the meat department, later transitioning into a much loved career in school nutrition. There she worked for over twenty years and became known for her leadership and management skills in the local school lunch program until her retirement in the early 1990s.
Connie’s pride and joy was always her family. She was a true matriarch. She loved crafting matching outfits for her daughters as they grew up and she loved knitting with her mother and cooking with her husband, children and grandchildren. Following retirement, Connie and her husband of 58 years wintered in Florida, where they played cards, tock and shuffleboard with friends. They were often seen walking hand in hand. In the summers they would travel to their summer lake house in Maine where they enjoyed loving family visits, evening sunsets from their deck, and leisurely boat rides around their lake.
Family, friends and neighbors always stopped by to visit with “Aunt Connie”, “Mrs.G”, “Mom”, “Memere”and she was loved by many. Her great granddaughter loved Facebook chatting with her and visiting with her in Florida “Memere Coonie” was her favorite. She will be missed.
She is survived by her three daughters; Pauline J Gauthier, Jackie Gauthier Chabot and her husband Gene, and Rita Gauthier Gigliotti and her husband Tom. She also leaves behind her five grandchildren; Sara Chabot Kent and her husband Joshua, Peter Chabot and his wife Dilyara, Laura, Tommy and Danny Gigliotti and one great-granddaughter, Edelynn Kent. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Gerard “Pete” Gauthier and her sister, Jeannine Moreau Marquis.
