He was the owner and operator of William Rose and Son, Roofing based in Chambersburg section of Trenton with many loyal customers in the ‘Burg, Ewing, Hamilton and Lower Makefield.
It took two years to build his house, and he continued planning and constructing improvements to the end. Once he could not do the work, he supervised! He also continued cutting the grass into his 90's with his lawn tractor.
He and his wife took just about weekly trips to Atlantic City to play the slot machines. He enjoyed traveling with his RV and made yearly trips to Florida and Branson, MO with many stops along the way at historic and scenic sites. For their 60th anniversary they took the RV around the US to visit relatives in the West and many national parks where he enjoyed exploring the back roads, sometimes much to Mildred’s dismay.
He belonged to the Coach and Four camping club and served as an officer for several years. They planned monthly weekend excursions to nearby venues and relaxed with the members. The camper also went as support to countless horse and dog shows.
Bill loved spending time with his kids, dogs, and horses. He was an avid bowler, belonging to leagues up into his 70s, with long term friends. And lastly, he enjoyed fishing with some of those same friends on their boats off the Jersey Shore.
Preceded in death by his mother, Frieda Walz Rose, his father, William Rose, his sister, Freda Rose Heishman, his loving wife of 61 years, Mildred E. Grouser and his son, William Charles Rose, II.
He is survived by his daughters, Dianne and Janet Rose; his niece and nephew, Gale Cogswell Gustafson and Robert Heishman, and their children. Bill virtually adopted many of Dianne and Janet’s friends, especially Mary Pat Ezzo.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with a service beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, 870 Centre Street, Trenton, NJ 08611.
