William (Bill) M. Moran, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2009, of cancer at his home in Levittown, Pennsylvania, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 7, 1930. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Bernadette M. (Negler) Moran; his sons, William, Jr. (Roberta Echard) of Montgomery Village, MD; Thomas of Yardley, PA; Kenneth (Christine) of Langhorne, PA; and Kevin (Melinda) of Wrightstown, PA; his daughters, Bernadette Moran (Jim Rossi) of Langhorne, PA; Teresa Moran-Hagan (Jim) of Yardley, PA; and Cara Noonan (Phil) of Warrington, PA; his sister, Marie Wirt of Philadelphia; his brothers, Joseph (Mary Ellen) and Bernard, both of Philadelphia; his 18 wonderful grandchildren with another on the way; and three special great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving daughter, Patti Moran Simkanin; his daughter-in-law, Barbara "Bobbi" Palmer, his parents, Bernard F. and Helen B. (Duffy) Moran; his brother James, his sisters, Helen Gallo, Winifred Bratton, Nancy Durkin and Margaret McKiernan. Bill served in the Army from 1951-1953, and worked for the Philco Corporation from 1948 to 1951 and from 1953 to 1956 in the inventory and financial departments. He joined Amstar Corporation (Domino Sugar) in 1956 at its Philadelphia sugar refinery and worked in the Cost Accounting and Industrial Engineering departments. In 1964 he transferred to Amstar's Wall Street corporate offices in New York, and served as a Senior Industrial Engineer, the Coordinator of Industrial Engineers, and finally as the Manager of Industrial Engineers until his retirement in 1985. In retirement, he worked for the Philadelphia School System and the Fleming Corporation (Frankford Groceries) for a few years and then part-time for the Internal Revenue Service's Philadelphia Service Center for 10 years, fully retiring in 2000. Bill graduated from LaSalle College in May 1959, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Industrial Management. He also was a graduate of Northeast Catholic High School and Saint Bartholomew grade school in Philadelphia. Bill was a long-standing member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 1 Bristol, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Irish-American Cultural Society of Bucks County, and was recognized by the Cultural Society as its Man of the Year in 1985. He was also a Man of Malvern at Saint Joseph's in the Hills Retreat Center, attending each year with his four sons. He was a 51 year parishioner of Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, serving for many years on its Buildings and Grounds Committee. Bill marched for many years in the Philadelphia and Bucks County Saint Patrick's Day parades and the annual March for Life in Washington, DC. Bill's hobbies were fishing and crabbing in the ocean bays of New Jersey and Maryland, planning and enjoying crab and seafood pot-parties with family and friends, visiting Ireland at any opportunity, cooking Sunday breakfast, caring for his grandchildren of all ages, and following and watching all of the major Philadelphia sports teams. Visitation with family will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 pm and again on Thursday morning, from 10:00 until 11:00 am, at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am at Queen of the Universe Church, 2443 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA 19056. Rite of Committal will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
