Todd was born at Lower Bucks Hospital on March 9, 1974, to Richard and Wanda Search, little brother to Adam Search. He was a boy scout who grew into a punk skateboarder. He played saxophone in the marching band, swam for the swim team, and served as president of his high school's literary magazine. He graduated from Neshaminy High School in 1992 and went on to study agronomy at Delaware Valley University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1996.
After graduating college, Todd joined the Peace Corps. He spent the next two years in Ecuador, where he helped the indigenous people learn about irrigation and sustainable farming. He also taught English to the local children and helped a women's group earn money by packaging and selling tea. He would often refer to those two years of service as his religion. He then moved to Palm Springs, California, where he worked side-by-side with Native Americans on their reservation. Todd returned to Pennsylvania and worked as a soil scientist for Del Val Soils. He eventually realized his passion for cars and became a collision repair technician, before ultimately becoming an automobile claims adjuster for All State Insurance.
In 2000, he met Caryn, his future wife, at his part-time job at Old Navy, and the rest is history. They married on October 8, 2004. On December 26, 2008, he became a father, his proudest title, to two beautiful children, Sarah and Alex. Todd was absolutely devoted to his family, including his rescue dogs, Lucy, Olive, and Daisy.
Over the years, he became an avid runner and was known to run more than 50 miles in a single day with his best friend of 40+ years, Justin Bursk. For Todd, a good night would involve watching the Phillies game on TV with a cold IPA. He loved music and attended many concerts with Caryn and his beloved childhood friends. Todd could make anyone laugh; his dry wit, big smile, and all-around goofiness were contagious. His favorite place was Cape Cod, where he hoped to retire one day with Caryn. His dream was to have a small farm with goats, chickens, and ducks. He would do anything for his children, whether it was driving to Washington, D.C. in a single day so they could attend a convention, taking them on day trips to see local attractions and have an adventure, or simply driving them to school every morning so he could wish them a good day and let them know he loved them. He just wanted to be with them.
He is survived by his loving wife, Caryn; his beloved children, Sarah and Alex; his adoring parents, Richard and Wanda; his devoted brother and sister-in-law, Adam and Ann, and his nephews and niece, Evan, Hannah, Michael, and Colin; his devoted mother-in-law and brother-in-law, Andrea Mihaly and Matthew Mihaly; his aunts, uncles, and cousins; his childhood friends, who would gather every year in Narrowsburg, New York; his co-workers, his running crew, and his entire network of people who appreciated how special he was.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA 19056. Family eulogies will follow at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the SPCA or your local animal shelter; Todd was adamant about rescuing and helping animals who need a second chance. If nothing else, please remember his vibrant spirit and his compassion and take the time to help others. That's all he would have wanted.
