Thomas M. Rankin Thomas M. Rankin passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Chandler Hall in Newtown, and is now home with the Lord. He was 90. Born in Sligo, PA he was formerly of Vandergrift and was a graduate of Vandergrift High School. Mr. Rankin was a PFC in the US Army from 1942 until 1945. He was a medical technician and the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Amerian Campaign Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars. Until his retirement, he was an accounting clerk with US Steel for 30 years. Mr. Rankin was an avid gardener and baseball fan and enjoyed football as well, with the Phillies and Pirates among his favorite teams. He was a man of faith and always had his Bible at his side He was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, Fairless Hills. Mr. Rankin enjoyed traveling with the Falls Township Senior Citizens. Beloved husband of the late Virginia R. (Risher), Mr. Rankin was the loving father of Linda S. Riegel, William B. Rankin (Nancy) and Thomas J. (Daria) Rankin; the devoted grandfather of Diane, Stephanie, Vicki, Danielle, Sean and Nicholas; and the proud great grandfather of Alexander and Alyssa. He will also be sadly missed by his sister, Virginia Clark. Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, from 9:30 until 10:00 am at the Northminster Presbyterian Church, 140 Trenton Road, where his funeral service will be held at 10:00 am. Interment will be held in Forest Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Northminster Presbyterian Church at the above address.
