Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Ms. Frye, went by 'Terrrie' and "Granny Gear" as she was fondly known by her many friends she considered her extended family. She was a resident of San Francisco and Sonoma County Calif., over 40 years.
She had been describe by friends as funny and loyal, independent and feisty, with a heart of gold and an ally to the community, who 'walked the walk'. Hers was a life well-lived.
Terrie was an outspoken activist within progressive political circles. She was a dedicated volunteer, giving her time and her commitment to anyone and everyone she could help, working hard for those often undervalued in her local community; Senior Citizens, the Homeless, AIDS groups, and the LGBTQ community; she was a voice for the voiceless. She was recognized by her peers and others, nominated for a 'Women of the Year" honor as well as earning a number of 'Volunteer of the Year' awards from her peers. She was an active member of the Harvey Milk Democratic Club, honored numerous times for her dedication as a volunteer earning in 2009, the Harvey Milk Club's Simeon White, Volunteer of the Year award, being recognized by California's State Assembly and Legislature for the honor. She was also honored by the City of San Francisco's Board of Supervisors with Certificates of Honor for her volunteer work, naming Feb 9th, 2021 'Terrie Frye Day', in recognition of all the hard work she gave over 40 years tothe people of San Francisco.
Terrie Frye, a loving mother who believed she gained her spirituality from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was the mother of Deneen Frye, Dennis Frye Jr, and Debra Manera [Ralph].
She is survived by her grandchildren, Troy Senge, Chris Bowley, Erin Murphy and Gabrielle Manera, as well as her great-grandchildren, Malia Senge, Jacob Bielarski, Casmira Calderon, Megan [Frye] and Gabbie Manera.
Daughter of the late Casimir J. and Dolores Splet, Terrie was the sister of Shirley Splet and the late John Splet. She has aunts, uncles, and cousins who still reside in the area of Pittsburgh where Terrie was born and in other areas of the U.S.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 25th at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at Resurrection Cemetery.
