Sheila Mae Whitney

Born and raised in Somerville, Mass, Mrs. Whitney graduated from Catherine Labore school of Nursing. She later met her husband Richard and married 1958. She worked as an RN in the Boston area for several years before relocating with her family to Levittown, Pa.

She raised four children at home and provided care to countless other children with special needs at The Woods School in Langhorne.

Mrs. Whitney was active in many community and political organizations while still making time to support her children in all of their endeavors. She especially loved coaching her daughters softball teams.

She was also an avid Four for Four Philly sports fan who supported her Eagles, Flyers, Sixers and Phillies teams for decades.

After many years in Pa, She and her husband retired to Mystic Island, NJ where they enjoyed fishing, boating and gatherings with family and friends.

Predeceased by Richard, her husband of 62 years, Mrs. Whitney was the loving mother of Richard W Whitney Jr. (Donna), Teresa L Whitney, Catherine M Stemme (James) and Dawn J. Shore (James).

She was the devoted Grandmother of 11 and the proud Great Grandmother of 7.

She is also survived by her sister Barbara and many nieces and nephews.

She was loved by all who knew her. Her smile and zest for life will be missed by all.

The family wishes to extend our sincere appreciation to Joanna and Sandy from Compassus Hospice and Mary, her close friend and caregiver. These special ladies also cared for Richard Sr before his passing in 2020.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, July 11, 2022, from 6:00 until 7:00 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, where her funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm. Interment will be held privately.
