Married for 64 years, to Raymond Porter, Rosemary is survived by five children - Catherine Anne Porter, Jonathan Henry Mark Evans Porter (wife-Heddi Porter), Gillian Louise Porter (Daniel Romero), Hillary Susan Spitzer (husband-John Spitzer) and Adrian Beric Porter (wife-Catherine Porter); and her 13 grandchildren, Thomas John Mirande IV (wife-Chloe Mirande), Michael Jack Mirande, Emily Anne Mirande, Stormie Danielle Porter-Romero, Skye Julian Porter-Romero, Julianne Debra Spitzer, Evan Raymond Spitzer (wife-Kayla Reopelle), Brian Trevor Spitzer, Hillary Michelle Porter (husband-Daniel Pagan), Carolanne Theresa Porter, Gregory Beric Porter (wife-Chloe Perceval), Jessica Elizabeth Thorn and Ian Jacob Porter.
Her accomplishments include surviving the bombings of London as a child during World War II, starting college in her late 40's and attaining her doctorate in anthropology, with a minor in women's studies, teaching in Gettysburg College, in her 60's becoming a driving force behind the creation of the High School Park, being in her late 60's when she was the captain on a winning women's (not senior) tennis team in the Pennsylvania State League Championship, being in her 70's when she was on a winning team in the North American Bridge Championships, skiing into her 80's, starting to camp in her 40's with 5 children between 5 & 12 yrs of age and still camping when she was in her 80's along with her husband, children and 13 grandchildren, and world traveling with her husband until COVID derailed their trips.
A spirited woman who never lost her wish to match wits and stamina in games of scrabble, tennis, mahjong and bridge. A gardener of life and all things that grow; from the soil, womb, and the heart into gardens, families, friendships and community. She will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life tea party in her garden will be arranged when the weather improves.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to Friends of High School Park would be appreciated by the family.
