Paul D. HastingsPaul D. Hastings of Levittown died peacefully on May 12, 2017 at St. Mary Medical Center.Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Hastings was a proud original Levittown homeowner since 1955 where he resided until two weeks ago.He graduated from Frankford High School and served in the United States Army in Germany after World War II.Mr. Hastings was a history buff and had a strong interest in politics. He served as a Democratic committee man, judge of elections, and was on the Middletown Township Zoning Board for ten years. Following his retirement at age 63, Mr. Hastings ran for state representative as a Democratic candidate.In 2012, he had the opportunity to be interviewed by Professor Thomas Banit from Kean University for the Veterans Oral History Project while touring the Battleship New Jersey. His recorded interview along with interviews from other veterans from the World War II era is currently housed in the Library of Congress in perpetuity.Mr. Hastings was a 55 year member of the Carpenter's Union Local 1073. Prior to retiring he was elected to the position of business agent for his local.Throughout his life, Mr. Hastings was passionate about health and nutrition. He enjoyed organic gardening and was an avid reader. He was a loyal friend, good neighbor and greatly interested in the welfare of others. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his beloved family. Mr. Hastings was an outstanding, loving and supportive father and grandfather.Husband of the late Eleanor E., Mr. Hastings is the loving father of Cheryl Leask Flanagan and her husband Eugene Flanagan Jr. and Lisa Hastings and her husband Richard Tyson and the devoted grandfather of Shawn Leask and her husband Clark Knapp.Son of the late Joseph and Elsie McAdams Hastings, he was preceded in death by seven siblings.Family and friends are invited to call from 10:30 a.m. until 12 noon on Wednesday at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown where his funeral service will be held at 12 noon Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Center, Pennsylvania Hospital, 700 Spruce St., Suite 305, Philadelphia, PA 19106 or Chandler Hall Hospice, 99 Barclay St., Newtown, PA 18940.
