Born in Clearfield, PA, where he and family celebrated the county fair just two summers ago, Michael was a lifelong resident of Levittown. He was a 1979 graduate of the Woodrow Wilson High School, where he was a proud member of the drum line.
Michael was the facilities manager at Noble Turf in Warminster, PA. Not just a salesman, Mike was quick to offer helpful advice and to lend his expertise to his many clients. Before Noble Turf, he was a landscape foreman at Gasper Landscape Design & Construction. Prior to that, he had been employed as grounds foreman at Jericho National Golf Course, where he blended his love for the outdoors with his love of golf. He also worked at G.M. Ellis Industrial Roofing for several years.
In his personal time, Mike had a passion for deer, pheasant and turkey hunting, and was excellent with both his rifle and his bow and arrow. In the off season he could be found tending to his garden, where no pepper was too hot! Not just a hunter for sport, he cooked what he killed and was known for his homemade jerky and pretty much anything he made on the barbecue. Mike also loved sports whether it was watching, playing or coaching. A fan of all Philly sports teams, he also took great pride in coaching Boys and Girls Baseball and Softball in Levittown for many years. Michael was so helpful to his friends and neighbors; He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
But more than anything, Michael adored his "2 favorite ladies", MaryAnn and Marissa. Together since they were 19 and 20, Mike and Mary were side by side through thick and thin. The arrival of their beloved Marissa was one of the happiest days of Mike's life, and anyone who knew him, knew his immense love for her. Loyal, fierce, Mike would literally have taken a bullet for the people he loved. He would tell a story with such passion; you'd think it was happening all over again! He will be sorely missed by many.
Beloved husband of 35 years to MaryAnn (Hendrickson), Michael is the loving father of Marissa Jay; and dear brother of Connie Gilmore (David), Candy S. MacNeil (Craig) and Eric J. Sinclair (Lora).
He will also be sadly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mike's father, Carl Jay, died when Mike was just six years old. His mom and dad, Betty J. (Rishel) and Dann Sinclair; and sister, Cathy J. Douts, also passed before him.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, November 8, 2019 from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown. Interment will be held privately.
Flowers are welcome, or donations could be made to the American Heart Association, 1617 JFK Blvd, Suite 700, Philadelphia, PA 19103 or Whitetails Unlimited, PO Box 720, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin 54235.
