Mary R. Book

Mary R. Book died on Tuesday July 19, 2016 at Woodbourne Place in Levittown. She was 95.Born in Philadelphia, Mary was an original homeowner in the Red Cedar section of Levittown and later moved to Upper Orchard. She was a graduate of Bensalem High School and Wilton Beauty Academy.Mary was the owner/operator of the former Mary's Beauty Salon in Penndel but took time off from her career to raise her two children. She later returned to work as an aide in the Neshaminy School District and part time at Macy's Oxford Valley from where she retired and was a member of the Macy's Ladies.She was a member of the Middletown Senior Citizens and the Red Hat Society. Mary loved to watch and play golf and continued playing well into her 80's.She thoroughly enjoyed the company of friends, reading, crossword puzzles, gardening and traveling with her husband. Her greatest joy was the time spent with her family, especially her grandson and great grandchildren.Beloved wife of the late Ivan L. Book, Mary is the loving mother of Bonnie McGoldrick (Jim) and Ellen Book-O'Neill (Duke).She will also be sadly missed by her grandson, Douglas Curcie (Megan); great grandchildren, Callum, Eddie and Ryan Curcie; and numerous nieces and nephews.Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, where her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The Rite of Committal will follow in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Langhorne.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, 3401 Civic Center Blvd, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
