Marie J. Birbeck

Marie J. Birbeck (nee Senske) of Long Neck, Delaware and formerly of Langhorne and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side on Thursday, October 4, 2012. She was 87 years old. Born on October 27, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Marie was the daughter of the late Joseph Senske and Frances Senske (nee Roschi). She rose to the ranks of high-level management in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Department of Public Welfare. She retired in 1985, spending much time with her grandchildren and traveling with her husband. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Birbeck Sr. and her son, John M. Birbeck Jr. She is survived by daughter Marie Mecleary (George); son Joseph Birbeck (Betty-Anne); sister, Frances Brady (William); grandchildren, John M. Birbeck III (Tracy), Jeffrey Birbeck, Jessica A. Mecleary (Vikram Joshi), Erin Cummings (Curtis), Victoria Robins (Jeffrey), Michael A. Birbeck (Jessica), Andrew Birbeck, Thomas Birbeck, Timothy Birbeck (Patricia) and Kristin Kent; and great grandchildren John M. Birbeck IV, Desirae Birbeck, Andrew Quindlen, Zane White, Jacob Cummings, Sean Cummings, Carter Cummings, Alexander Joshi, Evelyn Joshi, Cameron Abshire and Connor Abshire. Marie's family would like to thank her CNA, Tammy, and her faithful volunteer, Marietta, for all of their loving care and support. Family and friends are invited to her viewing on Monday from 9 until 10:15 a.m. at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church followed by Rite of Committal in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Delaware Hospice. 3515 Silver Side Road, Wilmington, DE 19810, in appreciation for the loving care and support given by the nurses, volunteers and staff.
