Joseph Schmitt Jr.Joseph Schmitt, Jr. of Levittown died on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Phoenixville Hospital. He was 87.Born and raised in Trenton, Mr. Schmitt moved to Levittown in 1956.He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a Lab Technician during the Korean War.Mr. Schmitt spent his career working in various positions at U.S. Steel's Fairless Works for 40 years until retiring and was an outstanding pitcher for their softball team. He was also a basketball coach for St. Michael the Archangel parish in earlier years.Mr. Schmitt was the husband of the late Judy (Brill); father of late William "Willee" Schmitt; son of the late Joseph and Anna; and brother of the late Josephine "Jean".He is survived by his children, Robert M. Schmitt, Debra A. McLemore, Judy M. Schmitt, and Joseph W. Schmitt.He is the loving companion of Bette White.Mr. Schmitt is also survived by his grandchildren, Hannah Prairie, Todd, John, Nicole and Heather; 14 great grandchildren; his sister Caroline Matthews; and numerous nieces and nephews.Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, where his funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm. The Rite of Committal will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Trenton, NJ. Memorial contributions in Mr. Schmitt's name may be made to Saint Michael the Archangel Church, 66 Levittown Parkway, Levittown, PA 19054.
