Joseph was born in Salt Creek Township, Indiana, son of the late George & Anna May (Busch) Hartz, beloved husband of late Cynthia Jane (Wirsch) Hartz, whom he married on October 20,1951. Father to Martina Young (Eric), Cary, NC, Robert Hartz (Cindy), Cincinnati, OH, Julie Hartz-Callahan (Carol), Goldsboro, NC and Dianna Mastropietro (Anthony) Levittown, PA. and the late Karen Ann Hartz. He is survived by nine grandchildren, Amanda Mastropolo, Kristina Killian, Matthew Young, Rebecca Young, Brian Hartz, Paul Cinquina, Cynthianna Book, Samuel Mastropietro and Ethan Mastropietro and 11 great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his sisters Mary Louise Foley, Loretta Woodson, Martha Molitor, and the late Betty Jane Jones, Rosalie Owens, Florence Hartz & Anna Marie Hartz and brothers the late Francis Hartz, George Hartz & Bernard Hartz, and a great number of nieces and nephews.
Joseph was a 1949 graduate of Springboro (OH) High School. He was a longtime builder in Cincinnati & Lebanon, Ohio. He was associated with many projects throughout the area including installing the first glass backstop in old Crosley Field, Lebanon Police & Fire Stations, University of Cincinnati and many of the homes throughout Warren County, Ohio. Even after he retired, he continued to build and do woodworking in the last years of his life. He was a former member of St. Francis de Sales (Lebanon, OH), and St. Philip the Apostle (Morrow, OH) parishes.
Friends and relatives of Joseph and Cynthia Jane are invited to Visitation at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 944 US Hwy 22 & 3, Morrow, OH, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024, followed by Funeral Mass for the couple at 10:30 a.m. Luncheon to follow in the church undercroft. Interment will be private at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
