Joseph J. Deery Jr. entered into eternal life on May 2nd 2017. He was 87 years of age. Joseph was born in Philadelphia on July 29th 1929, the son of Joseph and Jane Mallon Deery. He resided in Upper Darby until he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served flying as a radio/radar operator on the Martin P4M-1Q Mercator in Navy squadron VP-21. It was during that time that he met his future wife, Dolores Fagnano. They eventually moved to Levittown, Pa as an original homeowner, and raised their four children.Joseph was employed at Bell Telephone of PA from 1954 until retirement in 1988. He then had time to enjoy gardening, act as personal chauffeur for family and friends, and was an audience member to the many plays, recitals and events of his grandchildren. He was their biggest fan, cheering them on at all their sporting events.Joseph was the beloved husband of Dolores, devoted father to Jeanne Deery Schaum, Karen Deery Smith (Steve), Gail Deery (Marc Rosenquist), Joseph Deery III (Mary Wilms); and loving grandfather to J’aime Smith Brown (Chris), Brieanne Smith Holloway (Jason), Stephan Smith, Lauren Deery Benfield (Lance), Joseph Deery IV , Rachael Deery, Matthew Deery; and great grandchildren Angelina, Colin, Cole, Emerson, Greyson (who poppy called Jimmy) and Charlotte. He will greatly be missed by his “girls” Trudy and Evelyn Trischuk and his neighbors and friends.He is also survived by his brother John Deery and his wife Marsha, sister Jane Givens and her husband Jack and many beautiful nieces and nephews. He was also loved by the Fagnano family.Relatives and friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 325 S. Oxford Valley Rd., Fairless Hills. Rite of Committal will take place on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. precisely at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd., Newtown, PA 18940. There are no calling hours on Tuesday prior to the Mass.Donations may be made to the children’s charity of the donors choice (i.e. Operation Smile, CHOP, Pediatric Cancer).
