John F. Plath, of Levittown died on Wednesday, June 23, 2010. He was 90. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Plath was a long time resident of the Port Richmond section of the city before moving to Levittown 20 years ago. Prior to Word War II,he was with the Civilian Conservation Corp. (CCCs) stationed in Arizona. He was a World War II veteran serving as a Staff Sergeant at the Chemical Warfare School for the U.S. Army at Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland. He was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon, WWII; Good Conduct Medal; European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon; the Army Commendation Medal and the Victory Ribbon. He met his wife and life-time partner Anne Dougherty Plath at Edgewood Arsenal in 1944. He served with the Boy Scouts of America for 35 years as Leader of Explorer Post 305, St. Adalbert's Parish in Port Richmond. John loved camping, canoeing, hiking in the woods, photography and flea marketing, which became his passion after retirement. Mr. Plath was the beloved father of Joanne Elliott and Patricia Bosak. He was the devoted grandfather of John, George, Terrie and Wendy and the great grandfather of Trevor, Samantha and Krystal. He will also be sadly missed by his brother, Ed and his wife Betty; sisters, Kathryn Stevens and Mary Plath and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 9172 New Falls Rd., Fallsington where the family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
