It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of John E. Kerwin, who left us on July 3, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born to Edward and Yvonne Kerwin, both of whom predeceased him. John was predeceased by his sister, Kaye (Wible), and his brother, Mike. He is survived by his brother, Pete, who, along with John's entire family, will miss him dearly. John lived a life filled with love, joy, and dedication to his family and friends.
John's journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his loved ones and his remarkable ability to bring joy and laughter to everyone around him. His beloved wife, Nancy (Shumskas), stood by his side through every triumph and challenge, providing unwavering support and endless love. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership. As a father, John was a source of inspiration and strength to his two sons, Edward and Michael. He taught them the values of integrity, hard work, kindness, and laughter, and his legacy will live on through their actions and in their hearts forever. John was also a loving father-in-law to Michael’s wife, Mary, and a proud Pop Pop to James and Makayla, whose lives were enriched by his warmth and wisdom.
John was a dedicated professional who took great pride in his work. He spent many fulfilling years at John Kennedy Ford, where he built long lasting relationships and earned the respect of his colleagues and customers alike. Later, he continued his career at Dealer Accessory Service, Inc., where his expertise and commitment to excellence left an indelible mark on owner Dave Capelli. John's work ethic and passion for his job was evident to all who had the privilege of working with him.
Before his professional endeavors, John served his country with honor earning two bronze metals. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, demonstrating his bravery and commitment to protecting the freedoms we hold dear. His service was a defining chapter in his life, and he carried the values of duty and honor with him throughout his years.
Among those who cherished John was his best friend, Rick Jermyn. John met Rick after the war, and their friendship grew stronger and stronger with each passing day. Rick stood by John's side through thick and thin, remaining a loyal friend until John's passing. Their bond was a testament to the power of friendship and mutual support.
During John's fight with cancer, he received tremendous care and support from his brother-in-law, Ted Shumskas. Ted's compassion and dedication provided comfort and strength to John in his toughest moments, exemplifying the deep bonds of family.
John's battle with cancer showcased his incredible strength and resilience. Even in his toughest moments, he remained a beacon of hope and positivity for those around him. His courage in the face of adversity was a testament to his character and spirit. Even in his last days John was more concerned about the family and friends around him, making sure they were taken care of and continuing to enjoy life.
John will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His infectious smile, laugh, warm heart, and gentle spirit touched the lives of many. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will forever remain in our hearts, serving as a reminder of the beautiful full life he lived and the love he shared. John had a knack for making everyone laugh, his sense of humor was a bright spot in every room, and his playful spirit will be missed by all who enjoyed his company. John always said “Don’t cry for me, but celebrate my life with friends and family over a cold beer or two.”
A celebration of John’s life will be held on July 16, 2024 at 11:00 am at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940, where family and friends are invited to gather and honor his memory. There will be a lunch following the celebration with details to be provided at a later date.
