James Carter Bentz

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of James Bentz, age 62, who passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024. He was known affectionately as Jimmy and Sarge, and was a proud Army Veteran.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he resided in Levittown, PA. He was a beloved husband, father, Pop Pops, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to so many. He is survived by his wife Leslie Bentz, his daughter Tricia Borosko (Mark), sons Brian Bentz (Jaclyn), Matthew Bentz (Krysten), Kevin Bentz (Erin), bonus daughters Kelly Smart and Lauren Smart, and sister Linda Cope (Billy). He was a proud Pop Pops to Bruce, Colin, Logan, Hudson, Juliana, Giselle, Charlie, and Brody. He loved so many including his siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends who have become family. He was preceded in death by his mother Joyce, his brother Tommy, father in law Kurt, cousin Edward, and his best friends Jimbo and George.

To know James was to love him. His strong Brooklyn accent could intimidate you but it didn’t take long to find out that he was all fluff on the inside. He wore his heart on his sleeve and never hesitated to help when you needed him. His work ethic was unmatched with many dedicated years at Con Edison and National Grid. He was well respected by his work colleagues and was a legend on the job site.

Although he resided in Pennsylvania, New York would always be his home. He was a very proud New Yorker and he served his precious city as a first responder during 9/11. He was also a NY Ranger super fan, some of his best times were going to games with his sons who all thankfully shared his love of the game of hockey. He loved to give you a hard time, especially to his daughter who grew to be a Philadelphia Eagles fan and never really got into hockey.

All jokes aside, he loved his kids and grandkids. He always tried to be in attendance at any sporting events, school functions, and special events. He was always so proud, he often had tears in his eyes. He loved hard, which was clear to see in the way he loved his wife Leslie. They were able to go on many adventures including cruising which was his favorite, creating endless memories, and sharing a lot of laughs during their time together. He also loved to share his passion for cooking with everyone. He loved being in the kitchen.

James had an amazing sense of humor even though he was often the subject of many of our jokes. He took the jokes well though and always cracked himself up when he thought he came up with a good response.

We will all miss his voice, his way of saying words wrong, him refusing to text back and always calling, the voicemails where he would only say “hey this is your father/Jimmy give me a shout back”, and the fact that he couldn’t do talk to text because the phone couldn’t understand him. Our lives will not be the same without him. Dad/Jimmy, we promise we will stay strong for you, the last thing we want is for you to have to play the world’s smallest violin while looking down on us.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, Pennsylvania 19056. Words of Remembrance will follow.

Burial with full military honors will occur on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd, Newtown, Pennsylvania 18940. Please be in line at the main office no later than 1:15 PM.
