Hugh was born and raised in Penndel. He was the son of late Leo and Theresa Campbell. He was a 1981 graduate from Bishop Egan High School where he played, coached, and refereed ice hockey. He worked for Amtrak for 35 years and retired in 2022 to be a full time grandfather.
Hugh enjoyed volunteering at Shamrock Reigns, and exploring his Irish heritage at Duffy’s Cut. He annually frequented the Outer Banks with his family and planned to visit Ireland with his wife and lifelong friends Pat and Debbie Frain. He enjoyed all things Grateful Dead and had a passion of playing the bass guitar. Hugh was a proud Harley Davidson owner and was a member of Warrior’s Watch Riders. He celebrated 30 years of sobriety and was an advocate for AA, attending weekly meetings at The Keys & The Hulmeville Group with his dear friend Neal Tracy.
Hugh was greeted at heaven’s gates by his daughter, Rebecca Elizabeth Marie Campbell, and many other friends and family members.
Hugh will be lovingly missed by his wife and high school sweetheart of 44 years, Karen Campbell; his son Ryan and his wife, Marilin; his daughters, Emily and her wife Kris, and Amy and her husband Bill. Last but not least, he is also survived by the loves of his life, granddaughters Rebecca Emily, Isabella Marie, and Sophia Juliet.
Hugh was a loving father, brother, devoted grandfather, uncle and friend. Hugh’s sudden passing is a tremendous loss to his friends, family and all who loved him.
Please join the family for Hugh’s life celebration on Friday, May 10, 2024 from 4 pm until 7 pm, at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA, in Grateful Dead attire. Family eulogies will commence at 7 pm.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Cardiac Critical Care at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Hugh’s honor to Shamrock Reigns, who provide rehabilitation for Veteran’s & first responders through equestrian therapy. https://shamrockreins.org
