Helen E. Merritt died on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Saint Mary Medical Center in Langhorne. She was 86. Born in Bellaire, Ohio, Mrs. Merritt was an original homeowner in Fairless Hills and was a founding member of Saint Frances Cabrini Parish. When her children were young, Mrs. Merritt was a girl scout troop leader and was also a local Den Mother for Pack/Troop 91. After her husband passed away, Mrs. Merritt enjoyed volunteering with the Middletown Township Senior Chorus, Young at Heart. Every week they traveled to various nursing homes to sing for the elderly residents. She was also an active member of a few local senior citizen centers. Mrs. Merritt was predeceased by her beloved husband, Herbert D. Jr. and also by her devoted and loyal companion, her Siberian Husky, Dusty. She is survived by her loving children, Herbert L. (Pamela) and David A. Merritt and Sharon M. Johnston (Mark); her 9 grandchildren, Herbert S., Jason, Rachel, Jennifer, David, Becky, Charysse, Ashley and Gabrielle and her 18 great grandchildren. Mrs. Merritt will also be sadly missed by her sister, Anna Bryant and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, from 8:30 until 9:30 am at Saint Frances Cabrini Church, 325 South Oxford Valley Road, Fairless Hills, where her funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am. The Rite of Committal will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 117, PO Box 1651, Levittown, PA 19057 or to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
