George J. Walter George J. Walter passed away with his family by his side, on Monday, February 23, 2015 at Nazareth Hospital. He was 89. George has been a life long Philadelphia resident and member of Saint George Parish. He was the former owner/operator of Bud and Mary's Market at "G" and Tioga Streets for many years. George was a member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Saint Joseph the Worker Council #4215, St. John Neumann Fourth Degree Assembly and the Alhambra Al Fath Caravan #126 He proudly served his country during World War II in the US Navy aboard the USS Claxton DD 571. George was preceded in death by his first wife Mary (Vollmar), and his brothers, Joseph and Albert. He survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Anna (Marchese) and his devoted children, Mary L. Galante (Dominic), Barbara A. Weiss (Michael), George J. Walter (Mary) and adopted son, Robert Harley (Patricia). George will also be sadly missed by his adoring 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, from 2:00 until 5:00 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown and again on Monday, from 9:00 until 10:00 am at Saint George Church, 3580 Salmon St., Philadelphia, PA 19134, where his funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 am. The Rite of Committal will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Feasterville. Memorial contributions in George's name may be made to Saint George Church at the above address..
