Born in St. Carols, Newfoundland, Canada, and raised in St. Anthony, she was the daughter of the late Hester Kinsella-Colbourne and Samuel Colbourne. She became a permanent resident of the United States in 1956.
Ethel retired from U.S. Steel Corporation - Fairless Hills Plant after 25 years of service. After she retired, Ethel worked for the Eagle's Club preparing food for the patrons and was known for her hot wings.
Ethel enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially Ceceila Orloski who was part of the special group called St. Frances Cabrini Seniors. She loved playing scrabble with her sisters when they came to visit the States. She also loved bingo, solitaire and yahtzee. She loved the casino trips with the seniors. Ethel was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan.
Ethel was a loving mother to her two sons, Donald and Gary J. Lomas that predeceased her. She was "Nan" to Robert, Morgan (Mitchell), Stephanie (Erick), and Kristin (Dima). She was great-Nan to Kyle, Keegan, Erick, Karley, D'anna, RJ and Myla; step-Nan to Mitchell, Jr. and Dani Jo, and the dearest mother-in-law to Debbie Lomas.
Ethel leaves her siblings Julie (Ross), Marie (Woodrow), Andrew (Juanita), and Donald (Brenda). Ethel was predeceased by her brothers, George, Edward and sister, Jane. She will be sadly missed by all of her extended family in Newfoundland and Ontario, Canada.
