Ellen married Francis, the love of her life, shortly after graduating from Robertsdale High School. They were original Fairless Hills homeowners. She often joked she moved from a small coal mining town to the big city.
Ellen raised her family and lived in that home for 68 years until her last day. She worked as a matron for the Pennsbury School District for 40 years. Ellen was meticulous, hard working, strong in life and affectionately known as Mrs. Clean.
Her family was the light of her life.
Ellen is predeceased by her much adored husband, Francis , her caring son in law Jim Smith, mother and father Adolph and Mae Brenna, brothers Mike and Craig Brenna and sister Elizabeth Grey. She is survived by her sister, Jacqueline Brocht (Don); and her sister-in-law, Julie Brenna.
She was the loving mother of three devoted daughters: Sharon, Cindy (David Downing), and Sue Ellen Smith ; the doting grandmother of Janelle Jones (William), Brenna Atkins (James), Matthew Smith (Candace), Amanda Smith (Jeffrey Wetzel) and was lucky in life to have met her 8 great grandchildren. She will be missed dearly.
Her neighbors will remember her infectious smile,amazing stories and generous nature.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM, with a service beginning at 10:00 AM at the James J. Dougherty Funeral home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA 19056.
A burial will follow at Newtown Cemetery, 16 N Chancellor St, Newtown, PA.
