ANTHONY F. DEROSEAnthony Francis DeRose (Tony) died Friday, December 1, 2017 at age 79. He was the devoted husband of Carol Anne DeRose, who predeceased him in 2016, and the father of Salvatore (Kathleen) and Anthony L. (Cynthia) DeRose. Tony was an adoring grandfather to Pamala Seeley (Timothy); Salvatore DeRose, Jr. (Samantha); Anthony, Christopher, and Olivia DeRose; and to his great-granddaughters, Aubrey, Kathleen, and Paige Seeley, and Meadow DeRose. He is survived by one sister, Velia Colombo (Louis). His sister Maria Giuseppina Storino predeceased him.Tony was the youngest child of Salvatore and Giulia DeRose. He was born in Roggiano Gravina, Italy and lived there until age nine, when his parents brought him to the United States. Tony was raised in both the Frankford and Tacony sections of Philadelphia. It was in the Tacony section of Philadelphia, where he learned the meat cutting trade. For over 30 years, Tony owned and operated The Modern Butcher Shop and A. DeRose Catering at the corner of Princeton Avenue and Crispin Street in Mayfair. Tony married Carol DeRose (nee Roberts) in 1963. They were married for 52 years until her death in July 2016. They lived in the Holmesburg and Mayfair sections of Northeast Philadelphia, before retiring to Collegeville, PA. Tony was a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews. They describe him as a man of generous spirit, who took greater pleasure in giving to others than receiving things himself. He was always ready with a joke or a smile. Also generous with his time, Tony was involved in many local organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, Meat Cutters Association, and the Sons of Italy. As a longtime member of Our Lady of Consolation parish in Tacony, Tony supported fundraising efforts and social activities including the annual spaghetti dinner. Tony's greatest love was being surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Before his illness, he enjoyed gardening and cooking for the family. He loved Sinatra, Phillies baseball, and a nightly glass of red wine. Friends and relatives are invited to the funeral services, which will be held at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, 7056 Tulip Street, Philadelphia, PA. The Viewing will be Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Langhorne, PA. The family has designated Our Lady of Consolation for those who wish to make a memorial contribution in Tony's name.
