Anthony F. Cherone died at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the age of 102.Mr. Cherone was born in Pittston, PA in 1915. He was raised in Freeland, PA, and moved to the Levittown area in 1953. Mr. Cherone was a proud original Levittown homeowner and a longtime member of Saint Michael the Archangel Parish.A member of the greatest generation, Mr. Cherone served proudly in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He successfully completed 30 missions over Germany, making his last mission on D Day and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Mr. Cherone worked for the US Aviation Supply Office for over 35 years and received the Superior Accomplishment Award in 1956 for engineering a sensor to help keep airplanes in service during the Korean War. He retired in 1975.He was also a well known bartender for many years at his brother's bar, The Surf Club, in Freeland, PA.Mr. Cherone had a great sense of humor and a sharp memory up until the end. He enjoyed riding his bike all around Levittown into his mid 90's and at 102 was still riding his exercise equipment daily.He will be lovingly remembered as a good friend, neighbor and great husband and father.Beloved husband of the late Elvira C. (Seaberg) to whom he remained dedicated his entire life, Mr. Cherone is the loving father of Mary Ann Renza, Joseph P. Cherone (Nancy), and Russell L. Cherone (Lori).He is the devoted grandfather of Richard and Renee Renza, Joseph, Jeremy (Laura), Anthony and Carly Cherone; proud great grandfather of 6; and dear brother of Louis Cherone and Rose Mattavi.He will also be fondly remembered by numerous friends and family.Mr. Cherone was predeceased by his granddaughter, Richelle Renza; parents, Rocco and Ann Cherone; and his siblings, Joseph, Russell and Mary.Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, where his funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Langhorne.
