Amy was born in Jamestown, NY and raised in Sugar Grove, PA. She is the daughter of Luella Rose (Williams) Collins and the late Elmer Eugene Collins. Amy moved to the Philadelphia area in 1969 in search of adventure and new beginnings. There she met many lifelong friends and her husband Jim, the love of her life.
Amy was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was supportive, loving, and full of fun and sparkle. Always ready to tease others and laugh at herself. Her spirit was always high, and she always looked for the good in everything and everyone. Glass half empty does not describe Amy. If you handed her a glass of mud, she would, with a smile on her face, say, "look at how full it is, at least it's not an empty glass of mud".
Amy loved to travel and experience new places. She enjoyed cruises in the Caribbean, cross country trips to see the National Parks and summer vacations with friends and family. She made it a point to visit friends and family no matter where they lived or how far away. She often visited her daughter down in Florida and up in Maine. She once travelled across the world to visit her son and family in India. One of her fondest memories, which she often retold, was a trip to New England with Jim early in their marriage.
Amy adored the outdoors; the family went on many camping trips to the woods and summer vacations at the beach. After she retired, she started gardening and often took her grandchildren on nature walks and picnics in parks.
Amy was a practical joker; pretending to accidentally spill water on naughty kids, making lemonade with vinegar on April Fools, and convincing gullible children a little salt on the tailfeather is how you catch a goose at Silver Lake. She never missed an opportunity to make a pun, often times hilarious, once in while pun-ishingly bad. When a card game or board game was brought out, she was playing. She was always delighted to play Go Fish with the little ones, Phase 10 or Mau with the teens, Kings Cup or Cards Against Humanity with the college kids or Trivial Pursuit and strategy games with the adults.
She always provided an ear to listen and sage advice when asked. She was a loyal friend to anyone she met and strived to put a smile on everyone's face.
She worked as an administrative assistant and a nurse's aide, where she found her true calling to help people at their time of need. Amy enrolled in the nursing program at Bucks County Community College and received her degree 1994. She began her career as an R.N. at Holy Redeemer Hospital and retired from VITAS Innovative Hospice where she was a Team Manager.
She was an active member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, Fairless Hills, where she participated in many activities including the choir, bells, and the youth group.
Amy is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, James, and their three children: Darren Gladney of Erie, Alicia Koegler and husband John of Warminster, and Susan Arnone and husband Josh of Abbot, ME, and her cherished grandchildren, Ian and Michael Gladney and John and Luella Koegler. She will be sadly missed by her mother Luella, her brothers, Elmer "Rocky" Collins and wife Marsha, Gary Collins, and Jim Collins and her sister Susan Luther and husband Arthur, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Kaye Onuffer.
A funeral service will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 140 Trenton Road, Fairless Hills, PA at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 13, 2021. It will be officiated by the Rev. Dr. Marianne Morgan. The family will greet friends after the service in Fellowship Hall. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Amy's name may be made to St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, PA. https://support.stmaryfoundation.org.
